La serie è stata ufficialmente annunciata da Nicholas Meyer durante lo "Star Trek Day" 2022[1].
Lo scrittore ha spiegato che questo podcast nascerà da un adattamento del suo copione originariamente scritto come una miniserie di tre episodi da un'ora ciascuno.
Il 
il sito StarTrek.com ha annunciato la fine della produzione della miniserie. Contestualmente è stato annunciato il casting di Naveen Andrews e di Wrenn Schmidt nei ruoli di Khan Noonien Singh e Marla McGivers. Sul sito viene brevemente riassunto il tema della serie «Come Khan si è trasformato dal tiranno illuminato e visionario superumano, con la possibilità di un nuovo mondo a portata di mano, nel mostro che noi pensiamo di conoscere così bene? Recentemente svelato, il resto della storia di Khan verrà finalmente raccontata in Star Trek: Khan.»[2].
Al San Diego Comic-Con 2025 è stata annunciata la data di pubblicazioni per il – ovvero lo Star Trek Day – su tutte le piattaforme di podcasting, con cadenza settimanale fino al 3 novembre, per un totale quindi di 9 episodi. Contemporaneamente è stata annunciata la presenza di George Takei e Tim Russ nei loro personaggi più famosi Hikaru Sulu e Tuvok. Altri personaggi saranno Delmonda (Olli Haaskivi), Ivan (Maury Sterling), Ursula (Mercy Malick) e Madot (Zuri Washington).[3]. Nell'occasione è stato pubblicato anche il trailer ufficiale della serie[4].
